Derek spent his career in the Marine Corps filling a variety of roles. Some of his favorite opportunities were working with the Marines and Sailors of the MARSOC community. He is an original member (“Plank Holder”) of 1st Raider Battalion and MSOC D, where he served as the Battalion Air Office, Air Officer, and Special Operations JTAC Instructor.
Today, Derek is a higher education specialist with a focus on military-connected students and those seeking college degrees. He oversees the Military and Veterans Program at the University of San Diego. Additionally, Derek is on the Board of Directors and a member of the BentProp Project, which is a group of specialists that search for and find Americans Missing in Action around the world from our nation’s previous wars and conflicts. He owns his own business that provides coaching and consulting services, from the individual to the executive level. He is an avid outdoorsman and distance runner. Derek resides in San Diego with his wife, Michelle.
