Sergeant Wolfgang K. Weninger

Sergeant Wolfgang “Wolf” K. Weninger was born in Auburn, Ohio on September 1, 1991. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, Sergeant Weninger participated in youth sports including football and hockey.  He graduated in 2010 from Kenston High School, and attended college at Catholic University of America and Valparaiso University, playing football at both universities.

Sergeant Weninger enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 11, 2015. During Boot Camp, he earned the title of Honor Graduate for the August 7, 2015 graduating class from Hotel Company 2nd Recruit Training Battalion MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina.  Sergeant Weninger completed Marine Combat Training and Ground Supply Training School at Camp Lejeune in 2015.  He was assigned as an Armory Custodian to Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Combat Logistics Battalion 8, Headquarters and Services Company from November 2015 to December 2018.  During this assignment, he completed PME schools, annual training, and served as a Platoon Sergeant.

In October 2019, Sergeant Weninger completed Individual Training Course 19 – 1 at Marine Raider Training Center, Stone Bay, North Carolina, and obtained the MOS of 0372, Critical Skills Operator.

Sgt. Weninger died in a training accident on June 16, 2020 while at U.S. Army Airborne School, Fort Benning, Georgia.

Sergeant Weninger was posthumously awarded the Basic Parachutist Badge and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
