Sergeant Wolfgang K. Weninger

Sergeant Wolfgang “Wolf” K. Weninger of Auburn, OH participated in youth sports throughout his childhood & adolescence, including football & hockey. He graduated in 2010 from Kenston High School & attended college at Catholic University of America & Valparaiso University, playing football at both universities. Sgt. Weninger enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 11, 2015. He graduated from boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC, in August 2015 with the title Honor Graduate. Sgt. Weninger completed Marine Combat Training & Ground Supply Training School at Camp Lejeune in 2015. He was assigned as an Armory Custodian to Combat Logistics Regiment 2, Combat Logistics Battalion 8, Headquarters & Services Company from 2015 to 2018. During this assignment, he completed PME schools, annual training, & served as a Platoon Sergeant. In Oct. 2019, Sgt. Weninger completed Individual Training Course 19–1 at Marine Raider Training Center, Stone Bay, NC, & obtained the MOS of 0372, Critical Skills Operator. Sgt. Weninger died in a training accident on June 16, 2020 while at U.S. Army Airborne School, Fort Benning, GA. Sgt. Weninger’s awards include Basic Parachutist Badge & Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (both awarded posthumously).
